The Atlanta Falcons really took the lead with their schedule release video, showcasing some significant creativity. On Wednesday night, all 32 NFL teams unveiled their schedules, and it’s become quite the trend for teams to produce these announcement videos. The Falcons, in particular, went with a Mario Kart 64 theme, which is pretty eye-catching.
The video features players like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Michael Penix Jr. as characters in a game called “ATL Kart.” You can see some classic elements from the game, especially referencing the well-known track, “Toad’s Turnpike,” set against the backdrop of Atlanta and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Adding flair, local rapper Ruda Cris counts down to the start of the race, introducing various drivers who represent the Falcons’ upcoming opponents. Things really take an unexpected twist when the scene shifts to a beach race featuring characters that look a lot like Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson.
Interestingly, during an interview, Hudson discussed how she met Belichick, which generated headlines and became somewhat of a talking point between them and CBS. Previously, Belichick had looked into coaching the Falcons but eventually handed the role to Raheem Morris. Now, he’s coaching at UNC instead.
Oh, and there’s a playful jab involving the New England Patriots that pops up in the video. When the Falcons are shown facing off against the Patriots, a scene depicts flat tires next to a “free air” sign, which might evoke a chuckle for some fans.
In the mix of all this, the Falcons were actually seen as strong contenders to clinch the NFC South after picking up Kirk Cousins. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out during the season, and they ended up with an 8-9 record after losing to the Bucks.
