The Atlanta Falcons used a first-round pick on their quarterback in April, but aren't ready to hand him the keys despite the veteran quarterback's current struggles.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris showed confidence in Kirk Cousins, who had four interceptions against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, leading the Falcons to 6-6 on the season.

But Cousins knows he hasn't been playing up to his standards lately, having thrown an interception in each of his last two games before Sunday's lackluster performance. Cousins has not thrown a touchdown in any of the past three games.
“I make no excuses for what happened today,” Morris said. “That guy carried us all season. He did a really great job. It's hard to throw that guy under the bus.”
The Falcons' selection of Penix, who played for the Washington Huskies, at No. 8 overall came as a shock to many, as Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed. .
He also suffered a blowout loss on the field in the regular season, completing three of five passes for 38 yards.

But Penix will continue to learn from Cousins. Cousins will try to right the ship this week by rejoining the team he spent the past six seasons with in what has been dubbed a “revenge game” against his team, the Minnesota Vikings.
