Younghoe Koo’s tenure with the Falcons has come to an end.
On Friday, the Falcons announced Koo, 31, would be released, and they are bringing in kicker Parker Romo instead.
Koo had been a consistent presence since joining Atlanta in 2019, often ranking among the league’s best in field goal accuracy.
However, his performance dipped last season, as he managed only a 73.5% success rate on field goals.
Before the 2025 season, Koo reportedly excelled at 90.2% during training camp and preseason.
In an Instagram post, Koo expressed gratitude: “I would like to thank the Falcons organization for giving me the opportunity when no one was there six years ago. This place helped me grow as a kicker and as a guy. I’d like to forever thank you for the support from the fans during this time.” He added that he has “nothing but love and respect for everyone in the building” and wished the team well as he moves forward.
The decision to sign Romo followed Koo’s missed 44-yard field goal, which would have tied the game against the Buccaneers in the closing moments of their week-long defeat.
The miss was critical; if Koo had made that kick, it could have sent the game into overtime.
With Koo not traveling with the team, they opted to play Romo ahead of their next game against the Vikings, where Romo converted all five of his field goal attempts, including one from 54 yards, leading Atlanta to a 22-6 victory.
After his successful outing, Romo became a talking point for his humorous post-game interview, in which he candidly admitted that he didn’t know all his teammates’ names yet.
