A disturbing altercation occurred during a kindergarten graduation ceremony at an Ohio Catholic school on Thursday, overshadowing what was meant to be a celebratory occasion for families.
One individual was transported to the hospital, while another was arrested.
Witnesses reported that chaos erupted at Queen of the Apostles School in Toledo, Ohio, when a family began to unnecessarily reserve multiple rows of seats, according to local news outlets.
Once the situation ended and law enforcement arrived, 28-year-old Jessica Anderson was apprehended and charged with a felony.
Reports indicate that Anderson became aggressive towards her parents for attempting to take some of the seats she had claimed.
Craig Mays, a fellow parent, recounted how he tried to diffuse the situation but couldn’t get many words out before things escalated.
“When I was arguing with Jessica, I honestly can’t recall much. All I know is I got hit really hard,” Mays stated.
Following this, Anderson’s relatives allegedly turned on him.
Footage captured the moment several individuals were seen punching a man, believed to be Mays, while he was lying on the ground.
When Mays’ ex-partner attempted to step in, Anderson reportedly pulled her by the hair, leading to further confrontation, with both hair-pulling and punches being exchanged, as shown in the video.
It’s worth noting that one of the attackers was dressed in pajamas and slippers.
Another local news station reported that Anderson allegedly slammed her mother’s head against a chair, contributing to the assault charges.
According to Mays, the child’s mother suffered significant injuries, including staples in her scalp and damage to her wrist and knee.
“It was an unfortunate day for everyone involved,” he remarked. “My daughter’s graduation was completely marred by this incident.”
Mays, reflecting on his own childhood at Queen of the Apostles, expressed disbelief that such violence could take place at a school he once attended.
Reportedly, while the children were rehearsing in a separate area, the brawl unfolded.
The school released a statement, acknowledging the swift actions of Toledo police.
The graduation ceremony has since been postponed.
