Families, Food Prices Hit Hardest

New data reveals that annual inflation in the UK has skyrocketed more than expected last month, with food prices and families struggling the most. An unexpected rise puts pressure on the left-wing labor government of Ir Kiel's Starmer.

AFP Report According to the National Bureau of Statistics (ONS), the consumer price index rose to 3.0% in January, up from 2.5% in December.

“This rise was driven by the fact that airfares were not as low as we normally see during this period,” said Grant Fitzner, Chief ONS Economist.

“After falling at this time last year, the costs of food and non-alcoholic drinks have increased, especially meat, bread and cereal,” he added.

New taxes on private schools announced in the government's Maiden Budget resulted in an increase in tuition fees at the beginning of the year, which also contributed to rising prices while directly affecting families.

This figure has moved inflation away from the Bank of England's 2% target.

The central bank in February warned that it would significantly cut its UK economic growth forecasts, increasing more than expected this year.

“If the inflation spike peaks at a level that exceeds expectations, or if the increase is extended, banks can find themselves with a nasty headache,” says Richard, analyst at Kilter Cheviott. Carter said.
