The family of a Hawaiian woman who went missing in Los Angeles this month is growing desperate after seeing disturbing footage of her from more than a week ago and are calling on authorities to step up search efforts.
Loved ones of Hannah Kobayashi, 31, were initially worried after she sent a series of disturbing emails to family and friends before she disappeared en route to New York for a “bucket list” trip. I was doing it.
A missing person report was filed with the Los Angeles Police Department on Nov. 10, but new video has raised concerns for relatives, a family representative said Wednesday.
Kobayashi's aunt, Larry Pidgeon, told the Post that family members recently indicated that Kobayashi was with an unknown person near the Pico subway station on Nov. 11 in downtown Los Angeles. He said he saw surveillance footage.
She said she could not provide any further information about the video because the investigation into her niece's disappearance was ongoing, but said it was “causing great anxiety and the family's suspicions that something was wrong.” In a sense, it has solidified this.”
“That worried us very much,” Pidgeon added.
The family hopes the new footage will prompt the Los Angeles Police Department to step up its search for Kobayashi.
Pidgeon said the department has informed him that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“Families are kind of doing their own research on the ground,” Pidgeon said, adding, “They want to do it.”
In light of the new footage, “we put a little more pressure on (police) to do the same thing as the family.”
Hannah's sister, Sidoni Kobayashi, wrote online this week that the Los Angeles Police Department hasn't offered much help. She said: “The police are not taking this as seriously as we would like because my sister is seen as an adult who can make her own choices.”

Haiku's Hannah Kobayashi flew from Maui to Los Angeles on Nov. 8, where she planned to hop on a connecting flight to the Empire State to meet her aunt. She missed the flight, even though surveillance footage showed her landing at LAX.
She also sent strange texts to family and friends before her disappearance, including one in which a friend told her she had been “tricked into giving away almost all of my funds.”
In another message, she claimed she was cheated on “for someone I thought I loved.”
Another message read: “Deep hackers erased my identity, stole all my funds and have been making me anxious since Friday.”
Her family previously said that the emails from Kobayashi did not resemble her.
Other footage shows Kobayashi at The Grove Shopping Center in Los Angeles' Fairfax neighborhood on November 9 and November 10, and her return to Los Angeles International Airport, but on November 11. On Sunday, he was seen near the airport without getting on the plane. subway station, USA Today reported.
The family previously said her phone has been off since Nov. 11.
Family, friends and volunteers who traveled to Los Angeles to help with the search will hold a vigil Thursday at 3:30 p.m. near Crypto.com Arena, where the Los Angeles Lakers will play that night.
Hannah Kobayashi is listed as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes, and fair skin with freckles.
