Ohio Couple’s Family Reacts to Arrest in Murders

The family of an Ohio mother and her husband, tragically shot in their home last December, expressed that they “all expected” her ex-husband’s arrest but chose to stay silent during the investigation to avoid disrupting it, as per reports.

Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband Spencer, 37, were found dead upstairs in their residence between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on December 30. Fortunately, their children and pet Goldendoodle were unharmed, according to the police.

Spencer, a dentist, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, and Monique had at least one gunshot wound to her chest.

On Saturday, authorities arrested Monique’s ex-husband, Michael David McKee, 39, a doctor from Chicago, on suspicion of the double homicide.

The day after his arrest, friends and family gathered, and an anonymous relative shared their relief regarding McKee’s capture. “It wasn’t a shock to anyone at all. We all expected it, but we didn’t say so because we didn’t want to compromise the investigation,” the relative explained.

“We’re all breathing a little bit of a sigh of relief because they got him,” they added.

Unidentified family members mentioned that, to their knowledge, Monique and Spencer were not aware of any issues concerning McKee leading up to the tragedy.

Monique and McKee divorced in May 2017 after a brief marriage, and records suggest it was an amicable split.

About a week following the murders, police released unsettling surveillance footage showing a “person of interest” walking in an alley close to the couple’s home during the early morning hours of the shootings. Initially, the family dismissed the video, suggesting it might just be someone returning home after a night out.

Columbus investigators tracked the vehicle arriving in the Weinland Park neighborhood where the couple lived, later leaving for Rockford, Illinois. They later identified McKee as the vehicle’s owner.

According to public records, McKee graduated from The Ohio State University School of Medicine and is licensed to practice in Illinois and California. He has been moving between states since 2020, including a prior residence in Virginia with Monique.

Currently, he serves as a vascular surgeon at a clinic in the Rockford area, where the vehicle was located.

Authorities are still working to establish a motive for this brutal crime. McKee remains incarcerated in Illinois but is expected to be extradited to Ohio, with a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
