The family of Ricky Hutton shared that the late boxer, who passed away at 46 in his hometown in England, was in a “good place” prior to his death on Sunday.
“We’re all devastated by what has happened. From our understanding, despite his well-known struggles, Richard was feeling positive,” the family and his team stated on Instagram.
Great Manchester Police informed NBC News that they discovered a 46-year-old man in a residence in Hyde, England, on Sunday morning but did not suspect any foul play.
According to a family statement, Hutton was found by his long-time manager, Paul.
The statement indicated that Hutton had been in contact with his family in the days leading up to the weekend and had enjoyed dinner with his “girl” on Friday night.
Hutton is survived by two daughters, Millie and Fearne, from his former fiancée, Jennifer Dooley, as well as a son, Cooper, from another partner.
“Richard wasn’t alone the day before or over the weekend,” the statement emphasized. “We’re all in disbelief about the situation that unfolded.”
A former world champion across two weight classes, Hutton was gearing up for his first fight in 13 years against Dubai Isalda in December.
Throughout his career, he held titles in both light welterweight and welterweight categories, amassing a record of 45 wins, 3 losses, with 32 of those wins coming by way of TKO.
“He was looking forward to what lay ahead, with his bags packed for Dubai to promote his comeback fight. There were plans for a celebration in Dubai.”
“He was eager to support his grandson’s fight for the first time. He adored spending time with Campbell and Lyla and was planning to enjoy more time in Tenerife.”
The family mentioned that they are organizing an additional service ceremony but are not prepared to share further comments at this time.
“The overwhelming expressions of sorrow and love highlight how much Richard was cherished,” they shared. “Ultimately, this brings us comfort and pride. For now, we are focusing on taking the time to mourn privately. Our priority is the well-being and support of Richard’s children and grandchildren.”
