Andrew Garfield has reiterated his belief that a gay Spider-Man could be a possibility in the future.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on August 31, he expressed the same view he first shared back in 2013, stating that “anyone can be in that suit.”
“Why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?” Garfield questioned in this latest discussion.

While Garfield’s interview primarily focused on his new historical drama “The Uprising,” the conversation about a gay Spider-Man garnered a lot of attention.
Reflecting on his earlier comments, he noted, “It was an exercise in rebellion that I felt passionate about,” adding that his views haven’t changed since then.
“I just still believe that anyone can be in that suit.”
Garfield revealed that he also pushed for Peter Parker’s sexuality to be explored and suggested that Michael B. Jordan could play a male MJ:
“What if MJ is a dude?… Why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”

Garfield emphasized that part of what makes Spider-Man such an iconic character is that he transcends traditional boundaries: “You don’t see skin color, you don’t see gender, you don’t see sexuality.”

Garfield also mentioned that he appreciates “the idea of a place where everyone is being honored, and everyone is being included.”
While there have been various takes on Spider-Man throughout the movies, a gay Spider-Man has yet to appear in the live-action adaptations.
