Fan suing NFL for $100 million due to ’emotional distress’ from QB’s drop in the draft

A fan is reportedly really upset about Chedur Sanders’ unexpected drop during last month’s NFL Draft and is seeking a whopping $100 million in damages.

The supporter, known as John Daw, claims that he has suffered emotional distress due to NFL practices and negative remarks surrounding the “former Colorado quarterback.” Legal documents indicate that Daw is a dedicated Colorado football fan who closely followed Sanders’ performances throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons. However, he says that Sanders’ pre-draft interviews suggested he seemed “unprepared,” and some leaked remarks characterized him as “too cocky.”

The lawsuit contends that these damaging statements reflected bias that influenced team decisions in the NFL, leading to emotional trauma for fans like Daw. Additionally, the plaintiffs argue that the NFL violated the Sherman Antitrust Act. They claim a conspiracy among NFL teams negatively impacted the draft process and that Sanders’ lower pick constituted a way to limit competition.

The suit also cites potential violations of the Civil Rights Act, stating that decisions about Sanders were influenced by racism and may have infringed upon his rights as a player.

A part of the claim demands not just monetary damages but also a formal acknowledgment from the NFL regarding the distress caused by their actions. They are asking for an apology and a retraction of any defamatory statements about Sanders, emphasizing that players should be evaluated based on their talent.

No representative from the league has commented on the situation.

Chedur Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was a highly talked-about player going into the draft. During the NFL Scouting Combine in February, reports emerged that some teams felt he came across as “indifferent” rather than polished.

As the draft date neared, experts couldn’t quite determine where Sanders would fit in, with the Giants, Saints, and Steelers seen as potential fits for a quarterback. Ultimately, they chose other players, drafting quarterbacks Jackson Dart, Tyler Schaff, and Will Howard instead.

Sanders was picked by the Browns, who had earlier chosen former Oregon QB D.J. Uiagalelei. In a statement, Sanders said he was “ready for work,” indicating he was eager for the opportunity that lay ahead.

Looking forward, he and Uiagalelei will join a busy QB room, which also includes established veterans like Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.
