Incident at Yankee Stadium During Blue Jays Game
Chaos erupted at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night when a can was reportedly thrown at the family of Toronto Blue Jays player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during Game 4, which the Blue Jays won. The incident, captured on video, showed the can flying towards the section where the players’ families were seated.
It seems that a younger member of the family was struck directly in the head by the can. In one of the video clips shared online, fans appeared shocked, looking up when the can made its impact.
I’m not sure exactly when the incident happened in relation to the Blue Jays’ 5-2 victory over the Yankees, which marked the end of the Yankees’ losing streak in the American League Division Series. Curiously, there was no immediate information on whether anyone was ejected from the stadium afterwards.
In a video released by a social media account, fans could be seen reacting when the can hit the young fan. He attempted to chase after the person who threw it but was restrained by those around him. Thankfully, some security or stadium staff managed to intervene, likely preventing the situation from escalating further.
One fan could be heard mentioning that it was just a “little kid” who got hit, which, if true, seemed to add to the unsettling nature of the event. Another video showed the individual who threw the can trying to navigate the stands for reasons that weren’t immediately clear, before being pulled back to their seat.
Meanwhile, those in surrounding sections, notably wearing Yankees gear, directed their frustrations towards the team, booing them. A spokesperson from the Yankees has yet to respond to inquiries about the incident.
This scene unfolded shortly after other unruly behaviors by New York sports fans made headlines, particularly during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. It’s, well, interesting how sports can bring out such passion, but sometimes it crosses a line.
The Blue Jays didn’t just win; they celebrated after knocking the Yankees out of the playoff race. The scenes in the clubhouse featured champagne flowing as Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” played in the background. Guerrero had a standout performance in the series, boasting a .529 batting average with 9 hits, including 3 home runs, and he playfully taunted the Yankees later, saying, “Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, the Yankees lose!” during a postgame show.
