Fulton County DA Fani Willis Seeks New Prosecutor Amid Controversy

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis announced via LinkedIn on Monday that her office is looking for a new prosecutor.

A Georgia appellate court had previously removed Willis from a case involving President Donald Trump, citing a failure to address potential fraud related to his relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. This ruling, delivered in December, raised questions about the integrity of the investigation. Meanwhile, it seems there are ongoing issues with the funding for her office.

“We’re hiring district attorneys!” Willis shared on the professional networking site, encouraging passionate candidates dedicated to serving the people of Fulton County. She emphasized a commitment to integrity and excellence.

Willis also recently accused several Fulton County commissioners of dishonesty regarding a funding dispute. Reports suggest she is dealing with a backlog of cases, with over 100 individuals still in the Fulton County Jail without formal charges. Although she requested an additional $7 million for her budget, the commissioners offered significantly less.

In a speech at Big Bethel American Church on January 14, 2024, Willis addressed critics who claimed there were discrepancies in pay between prosecutors involved in the Trump case. She asserted that no fraud was taking place, even as evidence emerged showing Wade was paid $250 an hour while another expert received $200, raising eyebrows about salary inequities.

Recently, a Fulton County judge indicted Trump and others on August 14, 2023, regarding efforts to dispute the 2020 election results in Georgia. Willis accused Trump and his associates of making false statements about election fraud during that pivotal time.

Interestingly, Willis received campaign contributions from Wade’s business partners during her campaign for DA in 2020 and later awarded them a lucrative contract, adding another layer to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding her office.
