Fani Willis' unsuccessful legal battle against Trump could be very expensive for her.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis reportedly put a significant effort into prosecuting President Donald Trump, yet she has apparently not succeeded in achieving that goal.

Willis faced disqualification in a Georgia case related to alleged interference in the 2020 election, which was dismissed late last year. However, her office has struggled against the legal challenges posed in this case.

Aside from dealing with accusations of misconduct, Willis now potentially has to cover millions in legal fees owed to the president due to legislation signed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp back in May.

The law, which came into effect in July, outlines that “reasonable attorney fees and costs” could be awarded in criminal cases if the prosecuting attorney is disbarred for misconduct and the succeeding prosecutor ultimately dismisses the case.

While it might seem that this law is aimed directly at Trump’s situation, there are issues surrounding the bill.

Trump is reportedly pursuing over $6.2 million in damages, and since his legal team has already received payment, most of the requested amount will likely go back to him.

Steve Sadow, who is leading Trump’s legal team in this matter, mentioned on WXIA-TV, “I feel for the citizens of Fulton County because Fani Willis acted inappropriately. She has now set up a situation where her office must fund it using resources from Fulton County. It’s entirely Fani Willis’ fault.”

He further asked whether Willis would disclose the budget amount she allocated to this lawsuit perceived as politically motivated.

Willis’s office has since filed a motion stating that this law raises considerable separation of powers issues as it imposes financial liabilities on elected officials for fulfilling their constitutional duties under Georgia law.

There has been no immediate response from Willis’ office regarding these developments.
