Steelers Win Against Vikings in Dublin
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin faced some scrutiny after the team’s 24-21 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday.
With the Vikings trailing, the Steelers defense managed to keep Carson Wentz from leading a game-tying drive, which was, I think, crucial. There was a moment, though, when James Pierre nearly intercepted Wentz’s first throw, but unfortunately, he lost control, and the opportunity slipped away.
Despite Pittsburgh committing two penalties during the final drive, defensive back Dession Elliott successfully deflected Wentz’s last pass attempt.
Fans were surprised by Tomlin’s confidence in his defense, especially given the high stakes in the closing minutes of the game. The Steelers struggled to secure a first down with just over a minute left, and Aaron Rodgers, their quarterback, opted to go for a punt instead of taking a risk at the Vikings’ 40-yard line.
Interestingly, although that decision worked out in the end, it left many fans feeling frustrated. It’s always a risky move, you know? Yet, the Steelers now stand at 3-1 for the season, while the Vikings fell to 2-2.
In terms of performance, Rodgers finished 22 of 28 for 200 yards and a touchdown to DK Metcalf, being sacked only twice. Kenneth Gainwell contributed significantly with 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
On the Viking’s side, Wentz completed 30 of 46 passes for 350 yards, tossing two touchdowns but also throwing two interceptions. The defense was relentless, reaching Wentz six times during the game. Justin Jefferson was a standout, making 10 catches for 126 yards, while Jordan Addison added four receptions for 114 yards.
Overall, it was an intense game, filled with decisions that made me think—was it the right call? But in football, I guess, there are always second guesses after the game ends.
