MLB has announced that robot bartenders will be serving drinks during All-Star Week as part of a new initiative with several robotics companies.
Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, is the host of the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, and fans will get a literal taste of what the league’s new technology has to offer before the game.
The first system is called ADAM, an artificial intelligence-driven service robot developed by a Nevada company. Richtech Robotics Inc. They can make drinks, clean up, greet customers and hold simple conversations.
“Adam is our CEO. [Wayne Huang’s] “Vision wanted to bring something new to the food and beverage market,” says engineer Jakub Campbell. “It’s not just a robot.” [Richtech Robotics] “I wanted it to have a personality and be able to talk to you, wave to you, make small talk, things like that,” he added. Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“If you’re going to the All-Star Game, you might not have a mammal making you a drink.”
MLB posted a video of the robot on its X account, showing it dressed in a Texas Rangers jersey and hat making drinks. Fans reacted negatively to the AI bartender.
“I don’t give tips to robots.” Said LA Dodgers fan.
“Will robots take our jobs? In this economy?” another fan said. Agreed.
“Can I have a beer?” Budweiser’s official account Reply.
Many other replies complained about a dystopian future and the prospect that the robots would be too slow or might malfunction, causing further delays.
But as Dallas reporter Alan Skyr pointed out, this wasn’t the only robotic drink maker available to fans on the stadium’s 100th floor.
“If you’re going to the All-Star Game, you’re not going to have a mammal making your drinks. They’re employing two robot bartenders, ADAM and Rotender. Sodas and liquor are measured out to the milliliter, says Rotender’s founder. ‘It’s so accurate. You always know what’s in it,'” Skyr said. I have written About X.
Rotender is an automated cocktail machine from Los Angeles that the company claims can make drinks in 30 seconds, and the idea behind the robot is said to be based on research that shows fans spend an average of 30 minutes waiting for a drink.
“We said, let’s build a machine that lets you get something simple. You don’t have to be a bartender and you don’t have to take minutes to make it. All you need is a big screen and big buttons. You tap what you want, tap your card to pay and you’re ready to go. Finally, you’re free to enjoy the experience you want,” said founder Ben Winston.
Rotender is much closer to a vending machine than ADAM, and is therefore more likely to be embraced by the majority of fans. photograph The “Self-Service Satellite Bar” exhibit showcased a machine with two screens and a transparent section between them, where customers view a liquor bottle placed upside down on a rotating belt and initialize their drink selection before pouring their desired drink.
The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be held on July 16, 2024.
