Speculation Surrounds Possible Tension Between Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift
Lana Del Rey recently hinted at a new song on Instagram, and it has sparked some theories about a possible rift with Taylor Swift. The 40-year-old artist shared a video of herself in a car, playing the track, which she labeled as “Track 13 @Jackantonoff.”
Fans quickly noticed that this reveal coincided with Swift, 35, unveiling the cover art and release date for her upcoming album, “Life of a Showgirl,” while also utilizing Swift’s lucky number, 13.
One user pointed out, “Lana shared Track 13. Taylor Swift has released her album. Knowing 13 is Taylor’s lucky number.” It seems that Jack Antonoff, a frequent collaborator of both artists, is not involved in Swift’s latest project.
On Tuesday, Swift hinted at the new music, and Antonoff’s wife, Margaret, was asked about it during an appearance on the “Today” show. She jokingly claimed ignorance about the music, adding, “I’m excited to hear the music.”
Interestingly, fans expressed mixed feelings—some compared the situation to a rivalry reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar and Drake, while others suggested that Del Rey’s actions could be related to her involvement with Ethel Cain.
Del Rey’s Instagram post coincided with Swift’s album announcement, leading some to see it as a shade-throwing moment. In a playful note, Del Rey joked about being “the most famous girl at Waffle House,” possibly touching on her recent experiences as a waitress.
One observer speculated, “What if Taylor knew that Lana and Jack were working on Ethel Cain’s track? Maybe that influenced her decision not to collaborate with him this time.”
Representatives for Swift, Del Rey, and Antonoff have not yet responded to requests for comments.
Interestingly, Del Rey and Swift have shared a friendship since they met at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards. Del Rey even provided backing vocals for Swift’s song “Snow on the Beach” a decade later.
Del Rey has also mentioned feeling inspired by pop stars during a past interview, stating, “She said she wanted me many times [success].” This enduring friendship adds another layer to the ongoing narrative surrounding their recent activities.
