Fans celebrate the star's birthday with events in New York City.

To celebrate Kim Cattrall’s recent 69th birthday, “Sex and the City” enthusiasts are coming together in Brooklyn for a unique event called “Oh, Honey: Kim Cattrall 69k.” This frequent gathering features participants running 6.9 kilometers two to three times weekly, culminating in watch parties that showcase beloved episodes starring Samantha, Cattrall’s character.

According to event organizer Kat Tek, “69 is the perfect age to celebrate Samantha, and she ages in every way.” Co-organizer Mary Daughterman embodies the free spirit of Samantha, noting that Cattrall fits perfectly within today’s cultural landscape.

“Despite some inconsistencies, her perspectives on sexuality and life still resonate,” Tek remarked. The quirky run kicked off in July and has extended over ten weeks, concluding with gatherings at Fulton Grand Bar, where fans enjoy themed cocktails and episodes.

This event, organized via the Strava app, has captivated fans not just in Brooklyn but across the nation—from Tulsa to New Haven, and even extending to smaller cities in Russia.

“I’ve never been a sports fanatic, but there’s something about the community aspect,” Tek explained, emphasizing how participants get wrapped up in the experience, cheering while watching their favorite scenes.

Interestingly, there are no strict requirements to complete the run; many attendees opt for shorter distances or simply join in the watch parties. As Tek quoted Samantha, “I don’t want to be in a situation for an hour that I’m not having fun.”

This all began rather playfully between two Bedford-Stuyvesant locals, evolving into a chance for fans—often single women in the area—to connect over their shared love for Samantha’s unapologetic attitude.

“It’s a fantastic way to bond with others in this vast city,” Daughterman added, highlighting how the show inspires a strong sense of camaraderie.

Participant Caroline Faye from Brooklyn shared her experience: “I told my younger friend that if she’s going to live in Manhattan, she really needs to watch ‘Sex and the City.’” Faye, who first engaged with the series in high school, mentioned how her perspective has changed as her life has evolved.

Another participant, 25-year-old Maddie Wilson, is training for a marathon and finds the event to be a great way to balance fitness with her love for the show. “Samantha just does what she wants,” she said.

Alison DeVerou, a seven-time NYC marathoner, noted that while she wouldn’t typically run just for fun, she makes an exception for Cattrall’s iconic character.

The community they’ve fostered reflects the bonds of friendship depicted in the show. Participants stay connected, sharing updates about their lives, even incorporating playful elements like novelty condoms featuring Cattrall’s face.

As Tek put it, this has been a delightful journey of bringing like-minded individuals together. They are already brainstorming their next event, a Halloween-themed “66.6K Kyle MacLachlan,” coinciding with an episode from “Twin Peaks.”

“It combines our love for different shows,” attendee Chelsea Blackmon remarked. This blend of interests keeps participants engaged and entertained.
