Maria Sharapova’s recent workout has ignited excitement among fans about her potential return to tennis.
On Tuesday, the five-time Grand Slam winner showcased a tough workout routine on Instagram, featuring exercises focused on her arms, core, and lower body, utilizing kettlebells and other tools.
She mentioned, “After a few weeks off from strength training, I can tell you it’s different than riding a bike.”
Her post resonated with her 4.7 million followers, prompting many to urge the 38-year-old to consider stepping back onto the court.
One follower expressed, “Marsha, you’re back and I’ll miss you so much,” while another simply begged, “Please come back to court.”
Curiously, one fan wondered if she was preparing for the Grand Slam, asking, “Are you ready for the 2026 US Open?!?”
Sharapova, once ranked No. 1 in the world, rose to fame in 2004 after securing her first Wimbledon title. She went on to triumph in every Grand Slam, including the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008, and the French Open in 2012 and 2014.
Injuries hampered her performance later in her career, and she faced a 15-month suspension for doping in 2016.
She officially retired in early 2020, with her final match being at the Australian Open.
Reflecting on her journey, she said, “Looking back now, I can see that tennis was a mountain for me. My path so far has been full of valleys and detours, but the view from the top has been amazing. But after 28 years and five Grand Slam titles, I’m ready to climb another mountain, to compete on a different type of terrain.”
Sharapova added, “But that relentless pursuit of victory? That never slows down. No matter what lies ahead, I’m going to apply the same focus, the same work ethic, and all the lessons I’ve learned along the way.”
Since her retirement, she has become engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes, and they welcomed a son, Theodore, in 2022.
In a 2023 interview, she reflected, “I’m very happy with where I am at this stage in my life. I’m grateful for what sports have taught me and where sports have taken me, but I really like watching sports from the outside right now.”
