Taylor Swift’s Influence Draws Fans to German Museum

Fans of Taylor Swift are making their way to a museum in Germany to see a painting of Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare. This interest was sparked by the pop star’s recent music video for her album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

In the video for “The Fate of Ophelia,” which has garnered over 68 million views, the painting comes alive, featuring Swift as the central figure, dressed in a flowing white gown and lying among lily pads.

Located in Germany’s Hesse state, the Wiesbaden Museum saw a significant increase in visitors last weekend, with many eager to view the oil painting by German artist Friedrich Heiser, which is over a century old.

“We’re currently showcasing Absolute Ophelia, and we’re both surprised and pleased about the turnout,” shared museum spokeswoman Suzanne Hirschman.

“Honestly, I was taken aback. I have a co-worker who loves Swift, and she immediately noticed how the video resembled the painting. It felt like an exciting coincidence,” she noted. “This is our first time displaying a painting like this,” she added.

Hirschman also pointed out an increase in teenage visitors, something they typically don’t see. It makes one wonder, did Swift visit the museum during her tour in Germany last July?

“It’s just wild!” Hirschman exclaimed. “We keep asking ourselves: How did this happen? Did she pick that painting? Did she see it? Or maybe someone from her team did? I mean, if Taylor Swift had been here, even secretly, I think we would’ve noticed.”

The museum is now taking advantage of this buzz by arranging a special tour on November 2 called “Taylor Swift’s ‘Ophelia’ at the Wiesbaden Museum.” Visitors who come dressed as Swift or Ophelia will be granted free entry.
