Fans of 'The Chosen' share how the Jesus series is changing the game in Hollywood.

Fans of the popular series “The Chosen” will have to wait until fall for the sixth season, but that didn’t keep the most dedicated viewers from celebrating. Last week, ChosenCon took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, uniting a large community of fans along with the cast and crew for its third annual convention.

As the first-ever multi-season show centered around Jesus and his disciples, “The Chosen” has captivated over 250 million viewers since it started in 2019 and is available in 125 languages. Initially funded by fans, all five seasons can now be streamed on Amazon Prime and for free on The Chosen app.

Amid cast Q&As and meet-and-greets, fans shared their thoughts with FOX News Digital about the show’s cultural influence and how it differs from previous portrayals of biblical stories.

Many fans appreciated the relatable characters. One attendee, Melissa, highlighted that “The Chosen” captures the humanity of Jesus in a way that past versions haven’t. “He laughs and cries with his friends,” she noted, contrasting this with older depictions that seemed less genuine.

Another fan, Joanna, dressed as her favorite character, agreed that Jesus’s more human representation resonates with people today. “He gets hungry, cold, thirsty… It makes him more relatable,” she remarked.

Others, like Mike, emphasized the emotional depth that brings the Bible to life in a fresh manner. “I love how he’s portrayed; it’s different from anything I’ve seen before,” he said, admitting he was moved to tears multiple times.

This strong connection to the show points to an increasing skepticism toward mainstream Hollywood productions among faith-based audiences. Mike mentioned that many couples prefer to avoid theaters unless they can be assured that the creators share their values. “It’s refreshing to see this,” he added.

Fans noted that “The Chosen’s” success is part of a broader trend in faith-based media. “King of Kings,” a recent film depicting the life of Jesus, achieved a record for the highest-grossing animated biblical film opening last year.

Christiana, who appeared as an extra, remarked that people seem to be recognizing the growth of faith-based content as beneficial, creating a ripple effect of positive change. “There’s a shift happening,” she said.

Martha, another fan at the convention, believes the show’s popularity might influence Hollywood’s approach to storytelling. “If they see that this is meaningful, they’ll want to know where these thousands of believers come from,” she suggested.

However, some fans cautioned against the commercialization of faith. Melissa expressed concern that if Hollywood seeks to replicate the success of “The Chosen,” it should focus on authenticity rather than celebrity hype. “I wish they’d consider who Jesus really is,” she concluded.
