Team Chaplain Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt is a beloved athlete whose loyalty to her team, Loyola Chicago, has earned her a position of fame and respect not only in Chicago but throughout the college basketball world. That's what we thought.
Loyola of the Chicago Ramblers picked up its seventh win of the young season, improving its record to 7-0 after a 76-54 loss to Eastern Michigan. However, social media users were furious after Ramblers players were caught on camera leaving the court shortly after the game, completely ignoring Sister Jean, who was seated in a wheelchair and tried to offer her hand in congratulations.
Reaction to this sarcasm quickly spilled over to X.
Apparently only the last two refused to bump fists with Sister Jean. But even one missed fist bump was too much.
Sister Jean began working at Loyola Chicago in 1991 as an academic advisor. Just three years later, she took over the role for which she is best known: team chaplain for the Ramblers.
Sister Jean turned 105 in August and shows no signs of quitting.
