Farah Griffin: Haley’s South Carolina results should be a ‘five-alarm fire’ for the GOP

Alyssa Farrar Griffin, a former White House communications director in the Trump administration, said Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s strong showing in South Carolina on Saturday should be a “five alarm bell” for the Republican Party.

On Saturday, Trump led Haley in the South Carolina primary 59.8% to 39.5%, a margin of about 20 points, according to the Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters Election Results Tracker.

In a CNN panel discussion after the campaign was called, Farrah Griffin said that even though Haley was running to take full advantage of the incumbent candidate, the Republican Party was unable to win 40 percent of the Republican primary vote. He said this should be a cause for concern.

“A guy who is effectively running as an incumbent, Donald Trump, gets 60 percent and 40 percent opposes? That’s not a mandate,” she said. “Especially the entire Republican Party machine is behind him, most of the elected Republicans are behind him.”

“Now, it’s unclear what the future holds for Nikki Haley,” Griffin continued. “I think we’re all looking at that with very open eyes. But she’s highlighting a fundamental weakness in Donald Trump that should be a wake-up call for the party. , for some reason it’s not.”

With the path to victory in the Republican primary still narrow, Haley has vowed to remain in the race despite calls to pull out.

But on Saturday, she reiterated her determination to remain in the race, saying: “I think it’s still important that voters have a choice between candidates, rather than Soviet-style elections with only one candidate.” “There is,” he said. And I have an obligation to give them that option. ”

Farrah Griffin said after Saturday’s primary that Haley said the right thing: “She’s coming through strong. She’s fine.” She said what needed to be said last night. ”
