Authorities in Los Angeles are searching for three suspects who shot and killed a man on a subway train Friday night.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials told FOX 11 that a man identified as Juan Garcia, 38, was shot in the head and killed after getting into an altercation with a group of men at the Metro E Line station at the intersection of La Cienega and Jefferson Streets around 7:40 p.m. on Friday.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities told FOX 11 that all three suspects are males between the ages of 15 and 20, and that they fled the scene before police arrived.

According to a GoFundMe set up by the Garcia family, Juan, also known as “Tony,” was a father of four and the eldest of seven children.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tony who left us on June 21st, 2024. Our brother was our protector growing up, strong as an ox and in our eyes invincible. As we get through this difficult time, we ask for the community’s support in giving Tony G the dignified and heartfelt farewell he deserves,” the family wrote.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

According to a recent report from FOX 11, this is the seventh attack to have occurred on LA Metro property. From April 22nd to May 21st.
The LA mayor’s alleged trespasser was “targeting” the bus, Gascón said. “He was looking for her.”
“Street violence spilling over into public transportation is a growing issue in the greater Los Angeles area. Metro sends its condolences to the family and friends of the victims,” a Metro spokesperson said in a statement to KNBC.
In May, Los Angeles Mayor and Metro Commission Chair Karen Bass called for an immediate increase in law enforcement officers across the transit system.

The Metro Commission unanimously passed a bill last month to add 260 officers to patrol the transit system each day to better ensure public safety.

“We saw nearly 1 million weekday ridership in March, but recent crimes threaten to derail this progress if we don’t ensure the safety of those who want and need to use our bus and rail systems,” Bass previously told KNBC. “We must act to protect this progress by ensuring the safety of our riders.”
