FBI captures Alexis Flores in Honduras for the 2000 killing of a 5-year-old girl from Philadelphia.

An individual from the FBI’s most wanted list, implicated in the kidnapping and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia, has been apprehended in Honduras. The FBI reported that Alexis Flores was arrested on Wednesday, with connections to charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution related to this horrifying case.

“This arrest, after over 25 years in hiding, demonstrates that even time and distance won’t shield violent offenders from justice,” stated FBI Director Kash Patel. He emphasized that the relentless efforts of international partners and FBI personnel led to the capture of a suspect linked to a terrible crime against a child.

The young girl was reported missing on July 29, 2000, and was found strangled a few days later. Subsequently, on March 22, 2007, an arrest warrant was issued for Flores after he was charged with murder and other serious offenses. That same day, Flores was also indicted on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Flores had been listed among the FBI’s top 10 fugitives from 2007 until March 2025, when he was removed during a regular review process by the Criminal Investigations Division to keep the list current.

In recent months, the FBI has successfully captured several other fugitives from its most wanted list. For instance, Alejandro Rosales Castillo, who had been a top 10 fugitive since 2017, was arrested in January for the 2016 murder of a young woman in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the same month, a Canadian Olympic snowboarder, Ryan Wedding, was apprehended in Mexico after reportedly spending over a decade evading capture.

As the FBI continues its efforts, it’s clear that the organization remains committed to bringing those who endanger the vulnerable to justice, wherever they may be hiding.
