Texas Law Enforcement Rescues 109 Children from Online Exploitation
In an intensive month-long initiative, Texas law enforcement rescued 109 children from online sexual exploitation in April.
Known as Operation Soteria Shield, this annual effort is coordinated by the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force along with the FBI’s Dallas unit. The results were shared during a press conference on Tuesday.
During this operation, authorities reported that a total of 368 charges were made.
“Operation Soteria Shield has united over 70 agencies across Texas, including local police, federal agents, state and federal prosecutors, the Children’s Advocacy Center, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,” officials stated.
They noted that while the operation posed numerous challenges, it was vital. “The FBI and our law enforcement partners will keep working to safeguard children in our communities and hold those who exploit them accountable,” they added.
Among the suspects arrested during the operation, 21 were previously registered sex offenders, according to statements made at the press conference.
Over 200 professionals were involved in various activities, which included 124 cyber investigations, 73 undercover messaging probes, and numerous rescues of at-risk victims, as outlined by authorities. Additionally, they executed 165 search warrants and seized 1,130 digital devices, which hold a significant amount of data.
A spokesperson shared, “The number of offenders apprehended and the children saved is remarkable. We feel the weight of this responsibility, and it reminds us that behind these statistics are lives affected by exploitation.” They stressed the commitment to work closely with law enforcement in pursuing cases with urgency.
The FBI mentioned that substantial illegal data was found on the electronic devices confiscated, which may lead to more arrests and potentially uncover additional victims.
“Through this operation, we not only saved children from severe abuse but also delivered a strong message: those who seek to harm children online will be found and brought to justice,” they concluded. “This isn’t the end of our work, but it has enhanced the safety of our community and brought hope to those who need it most.”
In a related operation, over 200 child predators were arrested in May thanks to collaboration between the Department of Justice and the FBI.
