FBI confirms Trump struck by bullet following Wray testimony

The FBI has confirmed that former President Trump was hit by a bullet in his ear during an assassination attempt, after FBI Director Christopher Wray questioned what hit him in the ear earlier this week.

“The bullet that struck former President Trump in the ear was fired from a deceased individual’s rifle. It is unclear whether it was a whole bullet or whether it had broken into smaller fragments,” the department said in an emailed statement to The Hill on Friday.

Trump faced an assassination attempt earlier this month in which he said he was hit by a bullet in one of his ears, and he has been seen wearing bandages on multiple occasions since the shooting.

The former president maintained on Thursday that it was a bullet that struck his ear, after FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress on Wednesday, in which the former president said, “I question whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that struck my ear.”

“No, unfortunately it was a bullet that hit me in the ear. And it hit me hard. There was no glass or shrapnel,” Trump said on Truth Social. “The hospital called it a ‘gunshot wound in the ear’ and that’s exactly what it was. No wonder the once renowned FBI has lost America’s trust!”

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), a former White House physician who treated the former president after the incident, disputed Wray’s question about what hit Trump’s ear.

“Two days ago at a congressional hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray suggested it could have been a bullet, shrapnel or even glass,” Jackson said in the letter posted to Truth Social on Friday.

“There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a gunshot wound. Congress should correct the record, as the hospital and I have confirmed. It is wrong and inappropriate for Director Wray to suggest otherwise,” he added.
