FBI Arrests Louisiana Man Tied to October 7 Hamas Attack
The FBI has taken a Louisiana man into custody on allegations that he took part in the Hamas attack on Israelis back on October 7, 2023. A criminal complaint recently made public outlines the accusations against Mahmoud Amin Yaqub al-Muftadi, who allegedly arrived in the United States using a fraudulent visa.
According to the unsealed complaint, al-Muftadi is said to have been involved with a Gaza militia that crossed into Israel to fight alongside Hamas on that fateful day. The devastating assault resulted in 1,200 deaths, with around 250 individuals taken hostage.
“Al-Muftadi is an operative of the National Resistance Brigades (NRB), also known as Martyr Umar al-Qassim’s Forces,” the affidavit indicates, describing the group as the military division of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which participated in the October 7 attack.
On the morning of the attack, it’s claimed that al-Muftadi armed himself and assembled others to support Hamas. The complaint notes his phone was tracked to a cell tower near where the massacre occurred, indicating his presence in the area during the attack.
“Evidence shows that al-Muftadi’s phone accessed a cell tower near Kibbutz Kfar Azha in Israel, which was the site of the massacre,” the affidavit adds.
Additionally, a recording from his phone call on October 7 revealed him urging others to prepare, stating, “the border is open,” and requesting a rifle and ammunition.
“The evidence indicates al-Muftadi provided false details on his U.S. visa application concerning his militia involvement, connections to Hamas, and military training,” the complaint states.
The affidavit mentions that al-Muftadi successfully obtained legal permanent residency and has been living in Lafayette, Louisiana, since the previous year.
“As a result of the misleading application, al-Muftadi gained the right to reside in the United States,” it explains.
He is facing charges related to providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and visa fraud.
