FBI Director Confirms Basis for Election Investigation

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the agency had probable cause when executing a warrant at the Fulton County election site. He emphasized that investigators undertook an “extensive” investigation prior to taking any action.

The warrant reportedly involved materials linked to the 2020 election. This follows President Donald Trump’s persistent claims that his narrow loss in Georgia to former President Joe Biden was marred by fraud.

On “Saturday in America,” Patel noted, “The FBI follows the facts and the law, and both President Trump and the Attorney General have clearly directed us to investigate any matter that presents probable cause.”

He later explained that the FBI and the Department of Justice collected a substantial amount of evidence authorized by a judge.

According to Fox News Digital, the warrant allowed officials to gather physical ballots, tabulation tapes, electronic ballot images, and voter rolls from the 2020 election. This operation took place just days after Trump reiterated calls for prosecutions linked to the election, stating, “People will soon be prosecuted for their actions,” during a speech in Davos, Switzerland.

Patel mentioned that investigators are currently reviewing a “tremendous” amount of information collected during the search, indicating that the investigation remains active.

Notably, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was present during the warrant execution, which drew criticism from some Democratic lawmakers who found it unusual for her to be involved in a domestic warrant investigation. Trump acknowledged Gabbard’s efforts, saying she “worked very hard to keep the election secure.”

Patel affirmed that the FBI operated under a judge’s signed order during the investigation, hinting that “something interesting is going to happen.” He added that the FBI had been working toward this moment for quite some time.

A Georgia grand jury had previously indicted Trump along with over a dozen others, charging them with attempting to undermine the 2020 election results. However, a Fulton County Superior Court judge dismissed the lawsuit in November 2025.
