FBI, Interpol, CBP Were Warned About Trump Assassination Suspect Ryan Routh

The FBI, Interpol and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were alerted to Ryan Wesley Routh, the second suspect in the assassination of former President Donald Trump, several months before Sunday when the Secret Service spotted Routh with a rifle about 400 yards from the former president.

Lack of precautions for Louth Caused Some political commentators have speculated that the federal government may have been negligent in protecting the president.

Chelsea Walsh, a nurse who had several encounters with Routh in Kyiv, Ukraine, reported Routh's threats of violence to authorities on multiple occasions. said of The Wall Street Journal In June 2022, she expressed her concerns to Customs and Border Protection agents during an hour-long interview at Washington's Dulles Airport, noting that “Mr. Routh was one of the most dangerous Americans I encountered during my month and a half in Ukraine.”

In 2023, Walsh again warned the FBI and Interpol about Routh, but received no response from the FBI. journal Report:

She said she heard Routh was trying to recruit Syrian refugees to fight in Ukraine in 2023 and filed online reports expressing concerns about Routh and others with the FBI and Interpol. She said neither Customs nor the FBI contacted her. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Routh's activities had been reported to the FBI in the past, but not related to Ukraine. In 2019, an informant told the FBI that Routh possessed a firearm despite being a felon, but denied providing the information when questioned further, an FBI official said Monday. The FBI passed the information on to authorities in Honolulu, where Routh was living at the time, and closed the investigation.

Other aid groups that were alerted to these messages in early June banned him from the Signal group and reported his activities to the State Department, citing concerns he may be involved in human trafficking and immigration fraud, Adams said. “Watch out for American Ryan Routh,” Adams warned Ukrainian aid groups in a June 2, 2023 message.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) opened his own investigation into the assassination attempt on Tuesday after the FBI and Customs and Border Protection failed to take action against Routh.

“It is not in the best interest of our state or our nation that this investigation is being led by the same federal agency that is seeking to indict Donald Trump,” DeSantis told reporters. “The public has a right to know the truth about how this assassination happened.” [attempt] It was born.”
