Investigation Underway Following Violent Incident at Pro-Israel Rally
A former FBI agent has revealed that authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding violent firefighting efforts during a pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado. The Egyptian national suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabri Soliman, is at the center of this investigation.
According to Jason Pack, the retired special agent, “Forensic teams are currently examining the scene, gathering remnants of devices, fingerprints, and any possible surveillance footage.” Investigators are also conducting background checks locally and internationally, which includes cooperation with Egyptian authorities and the US embassy in Cairo.
During the incident, Soliman was reportedly armed with Molotov cocktails and a homemade flamethrower. Witnesses claim he shouted slogans such as “Free Palestine” during the attack, indicating that his actions were not random—rather, they were politically or ideologically motivated.
Soliman faces multiple charges, including murder and assault. All of this raises critical questions as officials work to determine whether his actions meet the federal definition of domestic terrorism. The guidelines define such acts as attempts to intimidate or coerce civilians and violate U.S. laws.
Investigators will focus on Soliman’s online history, his movements, and any potential international connections. They aim to establish whether his attack on public gatherings was ideologically driven to instill fear and convey political messages.
Pack emphasized that more than mere ideology is needed for federal prosecution. “They must demonstrate intent to intimidate, supported by major evidence like statements, writings, or digital communications.” He noted that Soliman’s behavior during the attack, such as refusing to flee and appearing visibly agitated, suggests impulsive extremism often associated with isolated individuals driven by ideology.
Furthermore, investigation reports indicate that Soliman had researched bomb-making techniques online and expressed intentions to harm those he labeled the “Zionist group.” His chilling remarks included a desire to repeat his actions if given the opportunity.
Although the implications of this attack are serious, Pack believes there are no signs indicating a larger conspiracy. “From what I’ve seen, there’s no broader plot here, but businesses and law enforcement are taking this seriously,” he stated.
The FBI remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of the community and is actively pursuing all leads to prevent future incidents. As investigations unfold, monitoring behavioral indicators becomes crucial in spotting threats early on.
