FBI joins investigation into UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s killing as NYPD believes suspect left NYC

The FBI confirmed Friday that it has joined the investigation into the brazen murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a luxury hotel in Manhattan.

The manhunt for Thompson's assassin in front of the Midtown Hilton Hotel has expanded beyond five boroughs and possibly into a tri-state area, as the NYPD says the suspect is believed to have left the Big Apple. There is.

“The FBI is assisting the New York City Police Department in its investigation,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

The FBI issued a wanted poster Friday night featuring surveillance images of the suspect previously released by the NYPD and is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. .

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenney said during a media briefing early Friday morning that the suspect was seen near the Port Authority Bus Center on West 178th Street about an hour after the Wednesday morning shooting.

“Those buses are interstate buses,” Kenney said, “so we believe he may have left New York City.”

“We have video of him entering the Port Authority bus terminal. We don't have any footage of him getting off, so we think he may have boarded the bus.”

The suspect's face can be seen in security camera footage obtained from the Upper West Side hostel where he was believed to have been staying before the shooting.

The brazen killer was also seen at Starbucks, where he purchased coffee, water and protein bars, police and officials said.

The New York City Police Department says they have recovered a water bottle believed to have been dropped by a masked gunman while fleeing from the shooting.

A water bottle and a coffee cup that may have been used by the perpetrator were recovered by police and are being tested for DNA.
