FBI Director Cuts Ties with ADL Following Controversial Links
FBI Director Kash Patel has distanced the bureau from the Anti-Defamation League, a shift from previous ties under former director James Comey.
Patel criticized Comey for his “love letter” to the ADL, which he claims portrayed the FBI negatively. He stated that it resulted in agents collaborating with extremist groups that behave like terrorists. “It wasn’t law enforcement,” he remarked, emphasizing a clear break from Comey’s policies.
In another development, the ADL officially decided to remove its glossary of extremist group definitions, following considerable backlash, including criticism from Turning Point USA (TPUSA), led by Charlie Kirk.
Patel publicly noted that there’s a new direction for the FBI, asserting that Comey’s association with the ADL is no longer relevant. “That era is over,” he stated firmly.
Reflecting on Comey’s past declarations, he had labeled the relationship with ADL as part of a broader effort to connect with diverse communities. During a 2017 National Leadership Summit, he expressed gratitude for the ADL’s long history of advocating for equity.
On September 17, Patel will again testify before Congress amidst ongoing scrutiny over FBI investigations, notably concerning high-profile incidents involving figures like Charlie Kirk and Jeffrey Epstein.
The ADL’s decision to dismantle its glossary comes amid rising tensions, especially since Musk has criticized the organization for labeling TPUSA as extremist. In his view, the FBI’s reliance on ADL’s definitions posed a significant problem during investigations.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna also weighed in, questioning the criteria that lead to groups being branded as “hate groups” by the ADL. She pointed out that dissenting opinions seem to be met with harsh labels.
TPUSA, according to the ADL, had been categorized as part of a “center of extremism.” Conservative voices have pushed back against this classification, arguing it aligns with a broader narrative of right-wing extremism.
While Fox News reached out to the ADL for comments, there was no immediate response.
