FBI provides latest information on the search for Charlie Kirk’s attacker

Update on the Investigation of Charlie Kirk’s Shooting

Authorities recently held a press conference to update the public on the ongoing investigation into the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Law enforcement confirmed on Thursday that they are still searching for the shooter, who fatally wounded Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Interestingly, they believe they’ve identified the murder weapon.

“This morning, we can confirm that we have recovered what we suspect to be the weapon used in yesterday’s shooting. It’s a powerful bolt-action rifle,” shared Robert Boles, the special agent overseeing the Salt Lake Field office. He mentioned that the shooter managed to escape into nearby woods after the incident.

The FBI also uncovered various clues, including “footwear impressions, palm prints, and forearm engravings,” which forensic experts are currently examining.

Boles noted that they have already received more than 130 tips related to the shooting.

Beau Mason from Utah’s Department of Public Safety urged the public to remain patient with the investigation and to avoid bothering those who have been interviewed by the FBI. He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between those who are merely interested in the case and actual suspects.

While the suspect has not been captured yet, it was reported that he was spotted on a rooftop and then reportedly fled the campus. Investigators are calling on local residents to share any relevant information, particularly any doorbell camera footage.

“We have solid video footage of this individual,” Mason stated. “However, we don’t plan to release it at this moment.”

He also indicated that if they are unable to identify the perpetrator, they might reconsider and release the footage to the media.

“We do not condone what happened yesterday,” Mason asserted. “We’re committed to following all leads. All our investigators and local agencies are putting in a tremendous effort. The support for law enforcement has been incredible.”

Mason also described the suspect as someone who blended in with the college environment, looking like just another student.

As the investigation progresses, Special Agent Boles urged anyone with videos or images connected to the incident to submit them to the FBI.
