FBI agents raided the home of New York Police Commissioner Edward Cabana early Wednesday morning, targeting aides to Mayor Eric Adams, sources said.
Law enforcement sources said the raids on Cavan began with agents raiding the homes of Deputy Mayor Phil Banks and Sheena Wright.
Another senior aide to Adams, Timothy Pearson, also received a cellphone subpoena, the people said.
Sources say Phil Banks' brother, Terrence Banks, a former MTA employee and current lobbyist, was also targeted in the action.
Wright lives in Harlem with Phil and Terrence Banks, the brother of the city's superintendent of schools, David Banks. It is unclear whether the attack was aimed at one or both of them.
The purpose of the search and subpoena was unclear as of Thursday, but sources said it does not appear to be related to a separate federal investigation into Adams' 2021 campaign's Turkey dealings.
“Police are aware that the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York is conducting an investigation involving military personnel. Police are fully cooperating with that investigation,” an NYPD spokesman said in a statement Thursday, referring questions to federal prosecutors in Manhattan.
Kaban could not be reached for comment.
