The FBI searched the home of Oakland’s Democratic Mayor Shen Tao on Thursday morning, according to multiple sources.

Investigators executed an arrest warrant at Thao’s home on Maiden Lane in the Lincoln Highlands neighborhood of the city around 5:30 a.m. PST.
In an emailed statement CBS News Bay AreaThe FBI said in a statement, “The FBI is conducting court-authorized law enforcement operations on Maiden Lane. No additional information can be provided at this time.”
Shortly after 10 a.m., FBI agents emerged from the house carrying boxes as reporters positioned themselves outside a home across the street.
It remains unclear what investigators were searching for or what they seized. The Justice Department confirmed that federal agents had visited Thao’s home but declined to comment further.
The search comes as a recall vote for the mayor is set to take place in November after residents gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot.
Oakland’s mayor is also facing scrutiny over the city’s crime rates and the departure of the Oakland Athletics baseball team.
