Trump's suspected shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, disassembled an AR-15 rifle in two pieces and hid it in a backpack as he made his way through the crowd at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the FBI said Wednesday.
Police released the first photos of a semi-automatic DPMS DR-15 rifle and a black backpack with orange and white accents that were recovered by authorities at the scene.
“Thomas Crooks' rifle was likely disassembled during transport and his backpack was recovered at the scene,” the FBI captioned the shocking new images.
Another photo shows the rifle fully assembled and lying next to a ruler, with a barrel length gauge confirming the barrel length was approximately 36 inches.
The agency also released photos of two improvised explosive devices found in the trunk of Crooks' car. The receivers that allow for remote detonation were set to the “off” position. The agency said the devices “had several manufacturing flaws.”
