The FBI is seeking information about the whereabouts of a Saudi Arabian man who was a former associate of Osama bin Laden for questioning about his suspected ties to the al-Qaida terror group.

The State Department has offered a $5 million bounty to anyone who finds the location of Hamza al-Ghamdi, who served as a trusted member of bin Laden's security force in the lead up to the September 11 attacks.

“We do not forget,” Christy M. Curtis, acting assistant director of the FBI's New York field office, said in a news release Thursday. “Twenty-three years later, the FBI seeks justice for the victims of the September 11 attacks as we continue to hunt down those who would do us harm.”

According to the FBI, al-Ghamdi played a key role within the al-Qaeda network, participating in armed conflict zones including Afghanistan and Tajikistan, and authorities also said he ran an al-Qaeda guesthouse near Kabul, Afghanistan, and provided logistical support to members of the group.

As an associate, Al-Ghamdi worked alongside the late al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and penetrated the core of the terrorist group's operations.

According to the FBI, Al-Ghamdi also uses the names Salih Saeed Al-Bitai Al-Ghamdi, Hamza Salih bin Saeed Al-Ghamdi and Hamza Al-Ghamdi.

The FBI announcement came one day after the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The FBI noted that al-Ghamdi is not the same person as Hamza al-Ghamdi, one of the terrorists who hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 and crashed it into the World Trade Center in New York City.
