Marine Arrested for Allegedly Planning to Kidnap a Minor
The FBI announced that they arrested an active-duty U.S. Marine on accusations of attempting to travel from North Carolina to Indiana with the intent to “meet, kidnap, and sexually assault” a 12-year-old girl.
William Richard Roy, 24, stationed at Camp Lejeune, was taken into custody in Durham, North Carolina, on October 26, as reported by the FBI Indianapolis Field Office.
The case started on October 25, when information was received from the Hammond Police Department about a missing 12-year-old girl thought to be with Roy. The child’s grandmother had reported her missing that same day.
“A coordinated effort involving the FBI, Hammond Police, and U.S. Marshals revealed that Roy allegedly flew to Chicago on October 24. The following day, he took an Uber to Hammond to meet the girl at a park,” the FBI stated. “They later took another Uber back to Chicago, stayed overnight at a hotel, and then boarded a Greyhound bus to Durham, North Carolina.”
When the bus arrived in Durham on October 26, agents from the FBI’s Greensboro and Raleigh offices detained Roy and safely located the child.
According to an FBI Indianapolis spokesperson, Roy indicated that he met the girl through TikTok.
Currently, Roy faces federal charges related to enticing a minor for illegal sexual activity, transporting a minor for the same purpose, and interstate travel intending to engage in sexual acts with a minor.
The Marine Corps has not yet provided a response to inquiries regarding the situation.
