The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked Costco to recall 79,200 pounds of butter for failing to label the product as containing milk.

The FDA has classified Costco's Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter as a Class II recall. This defines “situations where use or exposure to a violative product may cause a temporary or medically reversible adverse health effect, or where a serious adverse health effect may occur.” Point. It's a remote location. ”

Many users made fun of the recall on social media because the product in question, butter, apparently contains milk.

“If necessary [the] “If the government tells you that butter is a dairy product…well, I can't help you,” one commenter responded.

“But if butter is mislabeled, consumers are literally spreading misinformation on toast, bagels, pancakes, baked potatoes and muffins. That's a scary thing to think about.” user joked.

“80,000 pounds of Costco butter recalled because the label didn't contain milk.'' News article tells people how to return butter or safely dispose of it . That’s butter,” another user added sarcastically.

All recalled products were manufactured and sold by Texas-based Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC.

The recall applies to salted butter packages with a best-before date of February 23rd.rdMarch 29, 2025th2025, unsalted packaging with a best before date of 22 days.n.d. and 23rd February 2025 and 22n.d. and 23rd Products from March 2025 are also included in the recall.

The FDA advised shoppers who purchased the product not to give it to other people or pets, and stores would offer full refunds to shoppers who did not use the product before the recall.

Users also point out that recalls for something as simple as a label are extremely wasteful. Many humorously emphasized that if you don't already know that butter contains milk, there are plenty of other issues to worry about.

“Rather than waste 80,000 pounds of butter, why not print a sticker that says 'Contains Milk' and preserve perfectly delicious food?” So wasteful,” another user pointed out.

The FDA has not currently disclosed whether there were any side effects caused by the recalled butter.
