FDNY firefighter goes into cardiac arrest during NYC blaze

FDNY firefighters fought Inferno at a multifamily home on Sunday in Brooklyn and suffered cardiac arrest as they remained hospitalized in a dangerous state, officials said.

Unidentified firefighters suffered from a medical episode that put him in danger after more than 100 first responders rushed to the scene at 1133 Lafayette Avenue in Bushwick around 11:30am, FDNY and the mayor said.

The fire broke out around 11:30am.

Firefighters were handled on site by the Medic before being taken to Wycof Heights Medical Center. He was then transferred to Lennox Hill Hospital for ongoing medical care.

Authorities have not announced his identity to work to notify his family.

Two other firefighters and two civilians also suffered minor injuries to two-storey flames spread across multiple floors and cocklofts in the four-storey building, the department said.

The flames were in control about two hours after FDNY reached the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
