When police attacked a factory in Georgia, they discovered dozens of Chinese citizens were kept close to slave-like conditions, and authorities say they were served by forced labor trafficking rings.

Federal officials said about 60 Chinese citizens were detained in small rooms and were forced to work long hours at the flooring manufacturing plant. Wellmade’s exploited workers are just a few of the many exploited workers that the Trump administration has eradicated.
Ice Homeland Security Investigation Stephen N. Schrank, special agent in Atlanta, said the situation these workers were living in was “terrifying,” and that he and his fellow agents are investigating eight other locations for similar crimes.
Three Wellmade industry executives have been arrested, including company owner Zhu Chen, his nephew, Jiayi Chen, and company fellow Jian Jun Lu.
At the suspect’s bond hearing, Assistant District Attorney Austin Wald argued that as soon as company officials arrive at the factory, they quickly confiscated workers’ travel and ID documents, making it difficult for them to leave.
Prosecutors also say workers were required to work 12-hour shifts and were not allowed to leave plants or rooms where they were housed.
“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking among workers and to hold people who exploit vulnerable individuals for commercial purposes.” I said In a press release. “The arrests of Zhu Chen and Jiayi Chen reflect the tireless efforts of the HSI and our law enforcement partners, along with the rescue of numerous victims. We will utilize all available resources to dismantle these criminal networks and guide the perpetrators to justice.”
Schrank also said dozens of victims employed in Wellmade’s performance flooring were saved from labour exploitation.
