The Trump administration has directed all federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) employees to take paid leave by Wednesday night.
In a Tuesday memo to department heads, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) said they will place staff on administrative leave and delete all DEI-related websites and social media accounts by Wednesday at 5 p.m. I instructed him to do so.
OPM Acting Director Charles Ezell also sent an agency-wide notice of the closure and directed top officials to ask staff about known efforts to disguise similar programs.
The move follows President Trump's Monday executive order “Ending radical and wasteful government DEI programs and policy priorities.. ”
The move is an apparent effort to reverse President Biden's executive order to remove potential workforce barriers for demographics outlined in 2021.
Federal agencies and departments have until Thursday to report all steps they have taken to comply with the memorandum and provide a complete list of DEIA employees as of November 2024.
Mayors are also being asked to submit a plan by January 31 to implement President Trump's legislation.
“Under my leadership, we will restore fair, equal, and impartial justice based on the constitutional rule of law and restore law and order to our cities,” President Trump said in his inaugural address.
“This week, I will also end government policies that seek to socialize race and gender into every aspect of public and private life. We will create a color-blind, meritocratic society.”
