Federal inmate dies after ‘perceived altercation’ at West Virginia prison

An inmate at a federal prison in West Virginia has died after a fight inside the facility, authorities said.

Andrew Davis, 39, was found and treated for unspecified injuries Sunday at Beckley Federal Correctional Institution following an “apparent altercation” with another inmate. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, media outlets reported, citing statements. From the Department of Justice.

No other inmates or staff at the medium-security prison were injured, the statement said. No other details were disclosed.

Davis was serving a nearly six-year sentence in Ohio. He had been in Beaver prison since March 2022.
