Federal prosecutors declared their intention to seek the death penalty against Luigi Mangion, according to court documents filed Thursday evening.
The application was obtained by the court’s news service on Thursday. It comes a week after Mangion was charged with federal charges.

“Luigi Nicholas Mangione intentionally and specifically engaged in violent acts and knew that the act had created a serious risk of death for a person,” the document read.
Luigi Mangione will appear at Manhattan Crown Court on February 21, 2025 for a visual hearing in New York City. Mangion has been accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Manhattan Hotel last year. (Curtis is the means/pool)
