North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak He won the Republican primary in the state’s statewide congressional district.
Fedorchak, who emerged as one of the favorites to win the race, was leading 46 percent to 29 percent at the time the Associated Press covered the race live.
The result all but concludes the tight race for North Dakota’s only congressional seat, but Fedorchak will have to face a Democratic challenger in November. But Democrats’ chances of winning the state are slim, as the party has not won a state legislative election in North Dakota since 1988.

Fedorchak defeated state Rep. Rick Becker and veteran Alex Balazs, who served in the Air Force, Army and Navy, according to Ballotpedia, and had been endorsed by the state Republican Party ahead of the race.
Becker, a former plastic surgeon, has been endorsed by former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), as well as House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good.
Meanwhile, Fedorchuk has garnered strong support from former President Donald Trump, outgoing Republican Gov. Doug Burgum and Republican Sen. John Hoeven.

The fierce race came after three-term Congressman Kelly Armstrong decided not to run for reelection to the House of Representatives and instead run for governor. Bergmum, who served two terms as governor and is considered by many observers to be one of the front-runners to be Trump’s running mate in November’s presidential election, opted not to seek a third term.
Armstrong, who received Trump’s direct endorsement, faced off in the Republican primary against Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller, who received Burgum’s endorsement. [insert result of gov primary if known/remained too close to call as of press time, according to the AP].

North Dakota voters were also tasked with deciding the fate of a prominent ballot proposition in the primary that would have barred anyone who turns 81 during a term from running for Congress or the Senate.
