Felix Auger-Aliassime’s surprising run continues at the US Open.

Just two days after defeating third-seeded Alexander Zverev, he advanced to the quarterfinals by winning against 15th-seed Andrei Rublev with scores of 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

The 25-year-old Canadian, seeded 25th, is now in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal since reaching three straight from Wimbledon 2021 to the Australian Open in early 2022.

Reflecting on his return to Arthur Ashe Stadium, Auger-Aliassime shared, “It’s been a few years since I’ve played here, and I think I feel better than I did back in 2021.” He noted that injuries and confidence issues had challenged him during that time. “It feels much better now, especially being back in the quarterfinals,” he added.

It’s noteworthy that he had a rough record of 1-7 against Rublev prior to this match, and he even faced an early deficit.

Still, Auger-Aliassime maintained his composure. “Finishing the game solidly was crucial for me to stay calm,” he admitted. “I’ve had tough battles with Andrei in the past. There were times when I would falter, and he would seize the chance. So it was vital to keep the pressure on until the very last point.”

Now, he sets his sights on facing eighth-seed Alex de Minaur.

Quote of the Day

“Yes. I might sound a bit crazy, but I really believe that you have to visualize and have faith for your dreams to manifest. I’ve talked to kids who visualized playing against Serena, and there’s a lot of power in believing,” said Naomi Osaka after reaching her first major quarterfinal since 2021.
