Female Disc Golfer Takes Stand: Declines to Compete Against Trans Athlete

A female disc golfer objected to competing against transgender individuals, stating that women in the field “must be safeguarded.”

Abigail Wilson, who is set to participate in the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) MVP Music City Open Event in Nashville, Tennessee, was seen in a competitive stance. As reported by Fox News, Wilson “pulled back her throw and swung her arm forward, but she didn't release the disc.”

in video After Wilson turned to face the audience, she shared on Instagram that she chose not to compete.

“Women need to be safeguarded in our field,” Wilson remarked. “This is unjust. I will not compete.”

“Today, I opted out of the Music City Open. Women require protection from the gender protection sector,” Wilson stated in her post. “This is unjust. I have dedicated immense effort to reach this stage to compete at DGPT, but the sacrifices of my career and my dedication are worthwhile if we can impact the future of other women, daughters, nieces, and our sport.”

Wilson expressed that if individuals “recognize how inappropriate it is to include a biological male,” it’s “time for the protected sector of sports to speak out.”

“I made this decision due to concerns about competing in this position on the Tour because of the anticipated protests this year and the incidents of violence at last year's event,” Wilson elaborated. “Following conversations with DGPT staff yesterday, it was clear they preferred not to adjust me at their prior tee time due to safety concerns on the course.”

As per Fox News, Wilson's competitor was Natalie Ryan, who “gained attention in September 2022 after securing the women's title at the Discraft Great Lakes Open.”

Natalie Ryan, a trans competitor whose presence spurred Wilson's protest, gained recognition in September 2022 after winning the women’s category at Discraft’s Great Lakes Open and ranking among the top five disc golfers globally.

In an official statement, the DGPT noted that “no formal or disciplinary action has been implemented” regarding Wilson's protest.

“The DGPT endorses the rights of all competitors to protest and express their opinions, and no disciplinary measures were enacted following yesterday’s protest,” the statement read. “We have not breached any regulations or guidelines. We encourage players to pursue what they perceive as right. Wilson is welcome to compete alongside all other players.”

According to the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) policy, transgender athletes “designated male at birth and utilizing testosterone blockers related to gender transition, or using testosterone blockers following gender-affirming surgery,” are allowed to compete provided they meet certain criteria like “competing 24 months prior.”

Breitbart News reached out to Wilson for a comment but did not receive a reply by the time of publication.
