Mr Hegseth's support comes at a critical time, as he has been under attack from anonymous sources since 2014 over reports about his alleged behavior while drinking and with women.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) also expressed support for Mr. Hegseth, meeting with him to restore America's military deterrence and enlist more patriotic young Americans into military service. He posted that he was happy to discuss the common priorities of attracting people.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has announced herself as a strong supporter of Mr. Hegseth, meeting with him last week and touting his accomplishments and qualifications since then.
“He is more than qualified to take on the role of Secretary of Defense,” she said Tuesday.
He has also seen a surge in support from male Republican senators, despite the smear from his critics over a 2017 rape allegation, despite a police report saying there was no evidence of rape or abuse of women. The support of Republican women is especially important.
