Former Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sex Abuse Charges

A former high school teacher from Kentucky has pleaded guilty to charges related to sending sexually explicit messages to a student. Rachel Clement, who is 29 years old, has agreed to never teach again and will register as a sex offender for life.

Clement entered her guilty plea on Monday, facing two counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a position of authority, as well as one count of tampering with physical evidence, according to reports.

As part of the plea agreement, which was accepted by Henderson Circuit Judge Karen Wilson, Clement is permanently prohibited from teaching in the United States. She is also required to register as a sex offender, the reports indicate.

The agreement includes a stipulation that Clement must have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family, and she is banned from all school district properties.

Reports indicate that Clement could face three years in prison for each count of sexual abuse, along with five additional years for the tampering charge. Henderson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Herb McKee Jr. has recommended that the sentences be served concurrently, although the judge holds the discretion to impose consecutive sentences.

The sentencing is scheduled for January 4, 2027.

Before reaching the plea deal, Clement was set to go to trial. Initially, she faced charges that included unlawful use of electronic means to entice a minor and first-degree sexual abuse, in addition to tampering with physical evidence. During her arraignment, she had pleaded not guilty.

Clement, previously employed at Henderson County High School, was arrested in June after the allegations came to light. Following the accusations, she was immediately removed from her teaching position, and school officials announced her contract would not be renewed.
