Female volleyball coach reportedly delayed sexual relationship with student until she turned 18, according to court documents.

A volleyball coach at a Texas high school has been accused of inappropriately touching student athletes in her vehicle after track meets and engaging in sexual activities only after the students turned 18, as stated in court documents.

Breanne Harkumbe, 34, reportedly developed a close relationship with a senior student over three months before they had sex. Interestingly, when the student’s parents confronted her about it, she attempted to shift the blame onto the student.

Last month, colleagues from Randolph High School reported Harkumbe to authorities after observing what they deemed “suspicious behavior” with a female student.

According to the affidavit, Harkumbe and the student exchanged around 160 messages on a school platform from February to April. School officials described this as typical teenage flirting, which went against policy.

The last message recorded was on April 24, including Harkumbe’s personal phone number.

Harkumbe allegedly waited until the student turned 18 on April 30 to engage in sexual relations with him at least twice. She also purportedly fondled the student in her car after a track event on May 14 when they “took a wrong turn” on their way home.

Details in the affidavit suggest that Harkumbe would go to students’ homes to provide “nail services,” during which she would also engage in inappropriate contact. It’s noted that she advised the student to keep their encounters secret, and the student believed her feelings were genuine.

During police questioning, the student described kissing Harkumbe twice. However, when Harkumbe was confronted about her behavior via speakerphone by the student’s father, she reportedly became angry and insisted that her actions were correct. During this conversation, Harkumbe tried to claim that the student initiated their first kiss.

Court documents highlight an odd contradiction in Harkumbe’s defense. She claimed the boy “pushed her down and tried to kiss her first.” Harkumbe resigned from her coaching position at Randolph High School prior to her arrest.

She has since taken on a new role as a volleyball coach at Cedar Creek High School in the Bastrop Independent School District. In response to the situation, officials stated they are reviewing the case according to district policy, emphasizing the priority of safety for students, staff, and the community.
